Disneyland Photo Report – July 15, 2013

Welcome Back to the Disneyland Resort!

This week we spend some time around the base of the Majestic Matterhorn Mountain. As part of Limited Time Magic, Disneyland invited Hans and his strapping son Erik to entertain guests.

There have been some great menu changes at the Sonoma Terrace over at California Adventure. If you're a beer enthusiast you'll love it! A bit behind on some entertainment changes, we also take a look at the Monsters U additions which were made to the Pixar Play Parade last month. The Dapper Dans are the center of this week's Limited Time Magic event, and we take a look around the Disneyland Resort.

The Magic of the Matterhorn

As part of Limited Time Magic, Disneyland invited Hans and his strapping son Erik to entertain guests this past week. The musical performances occurred seven times each day, and was also typically accompanied by the Matterhorn Mountian climbers. It was amazing to not only see such activity on the side of the Matterhorn, but also watch the guest reactions on the ground. Guests on pathways between the Matterhorn and Sleeping Beauty Castle, near the front of the attraction entrance and even in portions of Fantasyland stopped what they were doing to look up at the activity. Guests were pointing, smiling and enjoying this rare, traditional Disneyland entertainment.

Most of the guests who happened upon a performance probably didn't realized that it was an extremely limited engagement. I truly hope that Disneyland sees the value in this entertainment and continues to bring it back during the summer months.

Sonoma Terrace Featuring California Craft Beers

A few weeks ago, the Sonoma Terrace began featuring a large selection of California Craft Beers. Some of the selections can be found at other areas around Disney California Adventure, such as Red Rocket Ale (Flo's V8 Cafe) and Karl Strauss Amber (in Pacific Wharf), but the remaining selection is unique and quite large. If you're a beer enthusiast such as the famous Henry Work (who tipped me off to this change), then you'll enjoy this selection and the relaxing atmosphere the Sonoma Terrace provides.

Play, Play - It's the Play Parade

A few weeks ago, just before the Monstrous Summer 24-hour All Nighter, Disney California Adventure added a some Monsters University elements to the beginning of the Pixar Play Parade. They include a reworked version of the Mike and Sully float, cheerleaders, Roz dressed in her university gear and Art, a character from Disney / Pixar's Monsters University.

Upcoming Limited Time Magic Events

    • This week, from Monday July 15 - July 21, Disneyland is brining back what was a winter "limited time" event, The Dapper Dans - The Original Boy Band. The traditional turn of the century barbershop quartet can be seen sining 'boy band' songs on Main Street U.S.A. Below you can find a video of the same performance from this past February.

Around the Resort

Disneyland celebrates 58 years this week! Here is a quick look at the 1955 model.

This model is on display in the Main Street Opera House and was originally created for Disneyland's 50th Anniversary, the "Happiest Homecoming on Earth" in 2005.

Mickey's Toontown

The Jolly Trolley has been removed from the tracks in Toontown.

The trolley was permanently welded to the tracks around 2006 after having disappeared after park management cited safety concerns. I personally would love to see the trolley return in working condition, as this area could use the zany kinetic energy the Jolly Trolley created. But it remains to be seen if the trolley will even return as a the photo prop it has been over the past seven years.
